Emotional Intelligence

This Is How To Increase Emotional Intelligence: 5 Powerful Secrets - Barking Up The Wrong Tree

Starting with a cartoon of someone saying "Yes, I think I have good people skills. What kind of idiot question is that?"

The "secrets":
  1. Self-Awareness
  2. Self-Regulation
  3. Motivation
  4. Empathy
  5. Social Skill
One needs self-awareness for evaluating oneself. Otherwise, one will not get anywhere.

Self-regulation means keeping oneself from acting on impulses that may be troublesome.

Motivation means having an intrinsic desire to do things.

For empathy, it is possible to have too much of it as well as too little of it. There are three types:
  • Emotional empathy: “You feel awful? Then I feel awful too!”
  • Cognitive empathy: “I understand that you are feeling awful. That must suck.”
  • Compassion: “You feel awful? I feel for you. How can I help?”
Finally, "Social skills means the ability to build rapport and manage relationships — with a goal in mind."

This is a part of multiple-intelligence theory, the theory that we have different sorts of capabilities where some may be developed more than others.

That's a terrific site and information. You are definitely one of the most resourceful people I've met on the internet for positive growth whether that be emotional or intellectual. Thank you!

How was that?

So, do they have tests for EI or EQ?

And, do you think that Trump would manage to score in the negative range?

Emotional Intelligence Test | Psychology Today -- it has a 145-question test of one's emotional intelligence.

I've found some other ones online, but I can't say how good they are.

I took one elsewhere once and it said my EQ was 50.

How's this for being self-aware? I know I'm primarily a cognitive empath, and having that realization has led me to strive to become more compassionate. However, that's not always easy for us introverts, since that means actively seeking out social situations. Then again, I've come to realize that as far as introverts go, I'm pretty moderate.
