Motivation means having an intrinsic desire to do things.
For empathy, it is possible to have too much of it as well as too little of it. There are three types:

- Emotional empathy: You feel awful? Then I feel awful too!
- Cognitive empathy: I understand that you are feeling awful. That must suck.
- Compassion: You feel awful? I feel for you. How can I help?
This is a part of multiple-intelligence theory, the theory that we have different sorts of capabilities where some may be developed more than others.
