Bought myself some vintage Meccano from eBay a couple of months ago. A set 6, if anyone knows what that is, plus some other bits and bobs. I've enjoyed it, so I've just bought a bigger collection that approximates to a set 9.
Can't believe how expensive it can be - the ultimate set, no 10, goes for upwards of £2,000 on eBay.
Anyway, here's some pics of stuff I've made. They're all out of the manual that came with it. Eventually I'll get to making my own creations, but for the time being I'm learning by following the instructions.

As an AFOL who earlier this year spent a fortune on LEGO, I'll ask whether you agree that nostalgia ain't what it used to be, eh?

Lol, but it isn't actually nostalgia for me. I didn't ever do Meccano as a kid.
Lego doesn't really appeal to me in the same way. I can see the attraction for those who like it, but I prefer the more engineered feel of Meccano.

Looks like the Erector sets we had as kids. My sister as well.
There is no such thing as "politically correct." It's code for liberalism. The whole idea of "political correctness" was a brief academic flash-in-the-pan in the early 1990's, but has been a good conservative bugaboo ever since.

I've seen it before, but never knew what is was called, so thanks for that.
Even if from the instructions, good on you for having built those creations. We do learn from doing, and I hope you'll share any of your own creations when the time comes.
I was a LEGO guy and both of my sons caught that bug. The nearly 17-year-old has moved on to other things now, but my 11-year-old is all into them. He'll first build whatever the set is "supposed to be," but eventually tear it down as he decides to come up with his own creations. Some of his own things are simply copies of, say, cartoon characters, but he figures out which pieces he needs and what will work and then makes them. It's impressive to see what he can do. There are only a couple of sets which have not yet been torn apart.
