Marriage before the girl is 18 is void. Sexual act with a child wife below 18 years of age is rape and punishable.
Now the Parliament has to draft a bill removing the inconsistencies in existing laws. Of course, Hindus and Muslims, both are going to complain. Muslims more vociferously - Shariyat, attack on Islam, personal laws.
Another law gives the age of assent as 16. I do not know what new law will replace it. Does it mean that sex below 16 is OK if the woman is not your wife, otherwise rape and punishable. Indian laws, complicated.
