Presumably named because one supposedly has to be as smart as Albert Einstein to solve them. If Einstein himself was interested in such puzzles, he did not talk about his interest very much.

Einstein Puzzles

Einstein's Riddles and Grid Puzzles has a classic one:

Five men of different nationalities live near each other in different-colored houses, each with a different preference in drinks, cigarettes, and pets. They satisfy these constraints:

The Briton lives in the Red house.
The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
The Dane drinks tea.
The Green house is next to the White house, on the left.
The owner of the Green house drinks coffee.
The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
The owner of the Yellow house smokes Dunhill.
The man living in the centre house drinks milk.
The Norwegian lives in the first house.
The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
The man who smokes Blue Master drinks beer.
The German smokes Prince.
The Norwegian lives next to the Blue house.
The man who smokes Blends has a neighbour who drinks water.

First -- presumably on the left. Left and right -- presumably relative to the houses' forward directions.

This puzzle has a unique solution. What is it? Who likes fish in it?

To solve, create a grid with house locations along one axis and attributes along the other axis. Then fill it in, while satisfying the constraints. Successfully filling in the entire grid will solve the puzzle.

I love solving these. Using spreadsheet software comes in very handy (coloured cells for Y/N/unknown). The multi-dimensional ones can be devilish, but the same solving principles apply, they just take longer and often require some deduction that isn't straightforward to glean from your grids.
