General Hobby Brag Thread (Image Heavy)
We've got a couple of ongoing threads for specific hobbies (wildlife photography and gardening), but I think we need a place to brag about our accomplishments in any of our hobbies. So here you go. Pics not required but strongly encouraged.

[quote=""frazier""]Ah hell why not. Charcoal or white pencil on white or black paper. Eight inch reflecting scope. I've got to get back into this - it was fun but obviously it's been a couple years!

I am a suspension tech by trade so my job/hobby is to lift/lower/level/repair vehicle suspensions. Here is a photo of a 95 Ford Bronco with a 6" suspension lift (superlift brand) and 35" tires.

Here is a 1997 Honda Civic that I lowered a slight 1" and upsized the wheels while maintaining the same o/d of stock:

I mentioned somewhere that I was going to post pics of the two projects I was working on over the Christmas holidays, then I forgot. Here they are:
First, I knocked together a folding table for my bed. It sits on the side rails for support, with small brackets to keep them in place, and the top was made from actual decking planks, so it's sturdy enough to sit on! It's a little high, though, for comfortable typing, so I may yet go back and shorten those legs. I want to keep it high enough to put my legs under comfortably, though.

And the other project was sewing together a little cover for my new Kindle, since I couldn't see plunking down $35 or more for something I could make myself. Not sure these pics will come out well. (All these were taken with my cell phone.)

Forest I drew in pen on an index card:

Still life copy of a screenshot from a show I like:
The Original
The Copy
One of many poems I have written, this one in tribute to Muelmar Magallanes, called "The Handyman":
The wrath and perils of nature assault.
Wind and water flourish
As scores of people somersault,
Victims without a last wish.
A handyman goes for a swim
To aid the otherwise helpless.
They reach the hard earth with him.
He dives again into the raging mess.
A lawyer clings tightly to a pole,
Desperately resisting the attack.
The handyman rightly saves this soul,
And then he decides to go back.
On a rooftop screams a clerk
Sans a self-preserving knack.
The handyman goes to work,
And then he decides to go back.
A mother and baby in the abhorrent
Waters are about to meet their doom,
But the handyman braves the torrent
Saving both the fruit and the womb.
Aching and sore all throughout,
He plunges back in without slack,
Continually facing the dryness drought.
And he will never come back.
Tempered by the violent flood,
A wall of concrete tumbled.
Without a single drop of blood,
The handyman is humbled.
Unlike the dozens he saved,
His body drifts away solo.
Nature's reward is rather depraved
For a such a hero as Toto.
I've bragged enough for now.

Last November I went to Narromine in NSW to get back into Gliding.
I'm going back in March, hoping to get a couple of long goal-flights in the qualify for a particular Certificate.
I need to do a pre-delared, 300KM flight and a 500KM free distance. My best to date is 275.

Haven't looked at my Photo Bucket for a while.
I've got an Olympus SLR I usually get out for Airshows, and have gotten a few good shots with it-

Wiz, if you're getting those from Photobucket by clicking that box under the pic there, it gives you the IMG tags automatically. You don't need to click the image box here, just paste the link directly from the clipboard. That's why you're getting extra IMG tags that show up in the post like above.
Not a complaint, just FYI. Photobucket kept screwing me up like that till I suddenly got it.

I learned to weld a couple of years ago as a hobby/backup job/retirement job. (I don't plan on retiring another 9 years until age 65, but wanted to be a master welder by then).
Some of my projects:
This old trailer become this kayak trailer.
A rolling bicycle rack for the garage.
An armadillo made out of horseshoes was a venture into welding artwork. A 24" scorpion out of scrap.
I've built another trailer (reworked really) and am doing the same with another now but want to begin working more with TIG as opposed to MIG and stick welding.

WOW! The level of detail on that welded dog-cape is amazing!

Nice pix, Wiz. You've taken up attending airshows as a hobby? I'm a revived fan of vintage aircraft and I'm thinking about taking up attending air museums and airshows for feeding my addiction.
Is that team in the green livery a flock of Aero L-39 Albatrosses?

When I was young I used to design and make most of my clothes: underslips, frocks, skirts, trousers, blouses, cardigans, coats and hats. I didn't make shoes, stockings, socks or bras. But it wasn't a hobby; it was a financial necessity. Once I didn't have to do it, I stopped most of it because I really hated sewing. I did continue knitting and crocheting for a while though.
I also used to do pottery and woodwork, but gave up both years ago. What I really loved doing was oil painting, mainly portraits and still lifes. I had to give up a year or two back because of arthritic degeneration in my right hand. That also meant giving up another enthusiasm: calligraphy. I suppose I could have continued painting if I had completely changed my style and technique and gone for very impressionistic stuff done with a knife or large brush, but I really like fine brushwork.
