For some reason my camera won't load photos in my computer anymore and I have to wait for the man to come home so I can use his laptop with my memory card.

So this is not a very good photo of my quilt as you can't see much of it.

This is a side view of it I can't remember the name of the pattern it was made such a long time ago.

I've seen it called "Eastern Star", "Eight-Point Star", or "Shoofly" most often. If the center square of each block was the same fabric as the 4 corner squares, it would be "Ohio Star".

Tho, many design names can be rather fluid.... several different designs can be called the same name in different regions, while the same design (like this one) can have several different names. Ultimately, the quilt-maker can call it whatever s/he wants, if s/he feels strongly enough about it.

Thanks for the information of the names.

I made this a long time ago with my mom before she passed away. I can't take much credit for it. I chose the colors and material I liked and helped make the squares to prepare it for quilting.

I am useless at the actual quilting part so she did all the amazing needle work.

Awesome quilts. I recently visited the Brooklyn Museum of Art where I saw the exhibit: "Workt by Hand": Hidden Labor and Historical Quilts. It had quilts from a few centuries ago that had survived. It was quite an exhibit. One of my favorites was an Amish quilt. It did not have decorative panels or flashy color, but the stitching REALLY stood out.

Also it is good to see someone from my hometown area! I grew up in Chicago and Rockford!

Let's see if we can pump a little life back in this thread, shall we?

I've been meaning to post this since Christmas- these are the name puzzles I made for my 3 little great-nieces. They're designed to be played with until they get too old to be amused, then serve as name plaques for the walls of their rooms.

The photo isn't great, but the puzzles themselves have gotten me all kinds of accolades from my family, and I'm possibly going to make some for sale.

My main hobby these days is wildlife photography and photos there are in The wildlife Thread

Before I had kids I used to like to draw and make models.

I don't have many examples of the first. Here is a painting I did on my dormitory door while in college in the early 1980's.

I made a wooden HMS bounty.

After the bounty I started on a clipper ship but the kids arrived and so that's been on hold now for 10 years.

Both the Bounty and the unfinished clipper ship are on my shelf at the office so that kids and/or cats won't be able to knock them over. Some day I hope to finish the clipper ship. But for now wildlife photography is satisfying.

(NOTE: I was finally able to post this by clicking the box saying I wanted to post.)

That Bounty model is impressive. Did you build it 'from scratch'- doing all the woodcarving yourself?

Thanks. It was a kit but the hull is individual plank on frame. Those round parts holding the rigging came pre-made. Much carving and fitting in any case. The Bounty took close to 4 years to make, working a couple hours most evenings

This is the partly done hull of the clipper. It took about a year and a half to get as far as I got on the photos above.
