1917 Song

Post by MattShizzle » Wed Aug 10, 2016 6:42 am

Never saw this before. A song by legends from the 1970s of US rock (Linda Rondstadt) and country (Emmylou Harris) from the late 1990s. From the perspective of a French prostitute.

Soldier could be British, ANZAC, French or American.

It's actually rare in the US to see much focus on WWI - it's overshadowed by the US Civil War and WWII. Even Vietnam gets much more focus. I had said elsewhere I suspected Motorhead's "1916" was about the Somme due to the lyrics AND year in the title and a bit ago read that Lemmy wrote it after reading of the battle.
