Just saw this comment on the video of the Pogues "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda." Quite horrifying. Wonder how many of the WWI vets (none living any longer) suffered PTSD (not known as such until after Vietnam) the rest of their lives. Wonder the same of both sides vets of the US Civil War.
My Grandad fought at Gallipoli with 1/5 Royal Scots Fusiliers he told my dad about clearing the battlefield during a lull in the fighting and how when lifting the putrefying corpses the arms would detach, little wonder he would awake screaming nightly until his death in the mid 60's..............Lest we forget
Imagine being hurt so much you wake up screaming every night the rest of your life - in his case about 50 years later.

What are you on about? War is romantic, filled with heroes who sacrifice all, the righteous struggle between the good guys and the bad guys, and the inevitable triumph of good over evil.

Fuck that shit. Not true. Now instead of a dictator who only kills those who oppose him they get fanatics who kill anyone who doesn't subscribe to their way of thinking - if "freedom" didn't kill them. And the young men and women from the US and other countries never signed up to die for bullshit.

Yep. A relative of mine lost his father that way. He never forgave the perpetrators.
