New paper suggests life arrived from elsewhere!

Just read this. WHile it's quite convincing evidence that life developed off world, I'm unsure that the conclusion of the paper, that life is common across the universe, is warranted. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2017/12/171218154925.htm A theory that has been gaining credence over the last...

Not really. While everything seems to be about binding phenomena this week I was still surprised to discover that I got mild effects across the board. I guess if it works it's cool, if it doesn't it's a waste of time.

Touché! We are given an "evening subject" and that evening, it was "critical thinking." I had four groups of 15 teenagers, a total of 60 kids. I exposed to them the "fine tuned universe" of the Intelligent Design then asked them, in groups of three of four, to think of ...

Personally I think the study is junk either way. The fact is that the statistic is generated by asking the question, and I quote: First, the NTDS questionnaire included only a single item about suicidal behavior that asked, “Have you ever attempted suicide?” with dichotomized responses of Yes/No. Wo...

It's just morbid curiosity, but I distinctly remember you blaming God for having kept you in the closet for so long when you came out as trans. Now you have come out as a Christian, what happens?

Getting to grips with Russian interference

I was trying to explain just how deep, rich and ubiquitous Russian attempts to manipulate voters could be. While trying to explain how we are at the point at which we can work up a rich psychological profile of literally everyone and then test our hypothesis about them in real time, by nudging them ...

I disagree twice.

1 portmanteau

2 when I can’t think of a word, I merely describe it. Swedish may be more compact, but both have infinite generative grammars.

It's really lucky that we can cleanly divide East and West, that philosophers in general fall neatly into neat convenient hierarchies and that there was no sharing of ideas across the ancient world. A perfect example would be to compare the arguments of Ibn Sina with those of Avicenna. While both, b...
