Understanding the character of the problem is key though. To effectively challenge the mistake that was made, we need to note the magnitude of the downside; otherwise it's easier to argue the motivation for an upside. The tragedy that is behind each death and injury, needs to be weighed against the ...

You're not an optimist are you? I believe we should hope that we can do better in future, otherwise we will see a repeat of the same errors. If in doubt, try. There's no evidence I've seen to suggest that we are condemned to a world we can't change for the better. It's foolish to feel powerless; esp...

Indeed but then what value follows from what is not unique. Bland normal is not special; is not valuable?
If there's then a range of what is common to what is near unique, where to 'settle'?
Should we be satisfied with what life presents us, or seek our something more than 'normal'?

I'm just following the logic as provocative - but I'm quite the romantic really. Following the tragedy to it's conclusion, we opt for a partner, playing along that though what we have is unique, but in their absence, would we not love anyone else equally in their place? :d unno: - "if not this ...

Having people acknowledge their stupidity and that which is done in their name, is rather important.
Some don't understand the risk ahead of time and need to reflect on the reality they've created.
if we accept the notion of the misperception of sexual interest, how is love substantially different? I think you're assuming that sexual attraction and love are the same thing. Either can exist without the other. Unless you meant something else?
Sex a...

Search "tracey emin drawings" in http://images.google.com and it turns up some rather NSFW scribbles that show even in the moderate Google!
:( I believe love exists

but what is love; if we accept the notion of the misperception of sexual interest, how is love substantially different?

Back to the OP. I think the topic likely goes well beyond just sexual attraction. Sometimes, I wonder if love is not just hope getting the better of us; extrapolating an idea of someone beyond what the facts confirm. People can live the illusion all their lives. I wonder how many people just settle ...

I rather like what little I've seen of her; partly enhanced by an extraordinary portrait of her, by David Bailey, in the National Portrait Gallery.. it's lifesize almost and quite striking. http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/51080000/jpg/_51080645_trac.jpg I think I shall be Professor of Women St...
'Man-hating lesbian' is possibly an oxymoron.

Lesbians have no reason to hate those whom they have no sexual dealings with.
Love and hate are beyond sex. So, 'man-hating lesbian' is not an oxymoron. It's like suggesting 'musak-hating lesbian'.

Tracey Emin to become Professor of Drawing at RA

Tracey Emin says she is "thrilled" after being appointed Professor of Drawing at the Royal Academy. Reviewing her retrospective earlier this year, the Telegraph's chief art critic Richard Dormant wrote: "she can draw like an angel, albeit one with a bad hangover." :D I thought t...

Korea Building Design 'Similarity' Sparks 9/11 Anger An apartment complex design in Seoul, South Korea, has attracted criticism for its similarity to the World Trade Center's final moments after the 9/11 attacks. The towers, one with 54 floors and the other with 60, are designed by Dutch architects...
