Funny how when the Puritans colonized New England they strictly believed that marriage was a civil function and not a religious one. Marriage was conducted and established by the civil authorities.

Or sometimes the writers. Like a parsec is not a speed but a specific distance. Love seeing Star wars fans try to explain that away. Or how they can go across a galaxy at 1.5 light speed..... Next to Star Wars, Trek at lease tried to base stiff in some science. The Heisenberg's uncertainty principle...

Thanks to this reminder I deleted all my photos from PhotoBucket and deleted my account. Since I got tired of posting wildlife photos I haven't searched for an alternative. I do occasionally post wildlife photos on a Birdforum but I can use the attachment feature there. I hope PhotoBucket goes out o...

Bumping this thread reminds me to go in and delete my photos. They don't work here any more so far as I can tell. I don't want Photobucket claiming joint copyright on my pictures as non professional as they may be.

[quote=""lpetrich""] I must say that some of Star Trek's technology seems less than impressive to me. Like the communicator. We've had walkie-talkies since World War II, and cellphones have gradually been developed since then. I have a very low-end cellphone, but it remembers pho...

We watched the 3rd episode this evening. The kids liked it. I didn't. Not star trek at all. No likeable charachers except perhaps the ensign room mate. A lot of the characters were dinks.

I expect that because the kids like it we will watch every episode but so far I don't like it.

I don't. I have heard lots of good stuff about it but never did get up the interest to buy a season of DVDs. You think that I should?

I'll preface my comments by first saying that I've been a Trekker since Star Trek TOS was first aired. I was 6 years old and my dad watched it and so did I. I have all the DVDs. I loved TNG and recorded every episode on VHS when it aired. I also recorded every episode of Voyager when they came out. ...

I'm expecting that pretty soon all of the photos I posted in the wildlife topic will be gone as Photobucket appears to now require paymemt for posting photos on discussion boards. The photo in the link in the OP is not the ship in question. The photo in the link is actually the USS Midway CV-41, new class of WWII fleet carrier that followed the Essex class carriers. The Midway was 45K tons. The story is about the USS Card, which was an escort carrier and only 7.8K tons. A ver...

So I thought I'd chime in here. I've been here in Japan this week and into next week. In my 26 years of visiting Japan, politics has never come up before in my client meetings. Trumps comment only again demonstrates his 1: absolute self-centeredness and 2: lack of awareness of both distant and recent history.

Seems to me that Pence is just as much a hard core right wing everything as Trump has been behaving. Regardless of what if any real principles Trump may have, which I suspect he had not, his behavior though appointments and executive orders have been at least as hard right wing as Pence would be.
